Database

Database Administrator/Developer

No company can operate without data.

How many sales did we make this month?
How much stock do we have in our warehouse?
Who are our customers?
The answers to all these questions and more are locked up in the databases of the company.

Database Developers and Database Administrators are in higher demand than ever before. No company of significant size can survive without them.

The administrators carry great responsibility to ensure that data is safe and secure, while at the same time accessible to everyone who needs it, from the CEO down to the factory floor.

Database professionals also have the task of turning raw data into useful information. While it is easy to record every transaction made, the challenge is to use this data to paint a picture of how the company is doing overall, and in certain key areas:

- Which products are selling well?

- Which segment of the population likes our products?

- How can we use information from the past to predict the future?

The field of answering these sorts of questions is called Business Intelligence or BI for short. It is one of the most rapidly growing IT professions today, and will earn you a generous salary.

  • Database Development – designing the structures to hold the data
  • Database Administration – making sure the data is available, secure and backed up.
